Venice, Italy
This is an extraordinary place full of surprises and deserves time to explore away from the hotspots that attract so many tourists from around the world. St Marks Square, the Bridge of Sighs and many more popular sites seem to distract from the real Venice, the behind-the-scenes Venice, the everyday Venice. This Venice was more attractive to me.
My explorations led to notice particular features of life in Venice that could be found everywhere. Secluded, private spaces, canals and gondoliers of course and washing hanging to dry from windows above the street.
This photograph, 'The Gondolier', epitomizes all that is the Venice I found in my explorations. The quiet secluded space, the architecture, the washing, the gondolier - it's just Venice.
Ready To Migrate
Burano, an island close to Venice, has many small homes brightly coloured using yellow, green, blue, red and more. It's fascinating mix and contradiction of colour.
But, what attracted my eye as well was the fun in this photograph of washing lines empty of washing but still with the pegs in place like a flock of birds getting ready to migrate!
